Matthew Kerrison Gingrich (1983 – 2021)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle.

Matt is the much-loved son of Kenneth and Lynne Gingrich. Deeply loved brother of Sarah and Lyle Guard, Kit and Robert Fraser, Jennifer Gingrich, Josh Gingrich. Proud uncle to Alexandra, Lauren and Jack. Remembered fondly by Bill Leavitt and Barb Parker (Ken’s partner). We are comforted in knowing that Matt has been reunited with his cherished Mother, brother Jeff and grandparents.

Matt was passionate about his family, swimming and all animals. He swam at the national level with the Region of Waterloo Swim Club for many years, with a butterfly stroke that was beautiful to watch. He had recently begun competing again at the Masters level, medalling multiple times from his first return to the pool. Matthew was also an avid runner, completing multiple half marathons and Olympic distance triathlons. He adored his nieces and nephew and spent hours talking about stuffies, princesses and John Deere tractors, with the endless patience of a devoted uncle. He connected with all animals and particularly identified with animals in rescue, often taking dogs out for a few hours through The Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society, as well as dog walking for his many friends.

Matthew attended the University of Waterloo and was passionate about finance. He was proud to work as a Financial Advisor at RBC Canada.

Capturing Matthew in a few words is impossible. Matthew was charismatic, charming, warm, remarkably sensitive to others, fiercely loyal, so loving, with a ready smile and laugh. He had an irrepressible flair for life and people were always drawn to him. It is devastating that it was his beautiful and pure heart that failed him in the end.

The family will hold a celebration of Matthew’s life in the spring. Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Matt at www.matthewgingrich.com

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society may be arranged through www.matthewgingrich.com or through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445, and would be appreciated by the family.

We love you Matty and will miss you forever.
